QC Chemist - Latex Additives and Surfactants

We are currently hiring for an experienced QC Chemist specializing in Latex Additives and Surfactants who ensures the chemical consistency, safety, and performance of raw materials, in-process blends, and finished chemical products. The QC Chemist will conduct rigorous analytical testing on materials like polymers, emulsion stabilizers, wetting agents, and defoamers to ensure they meet strict manufacturing specifications and industry standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform chemical tests that include acid-base titrations (both manual and automated versions), moisture determinations, color comparison testing, temperature, pH determination, density and viscosity measures.
  • Perform other special chemical and physical tests.
  • Communication with production staff and notify of test results.
  • Build and maintain a basic understanding of TRCC products and chemistries.
  • Write technical reports to document testing methods and results
  • Work with production team to implement QC checks and measures.
  • Advise QC Technicians on test results and proper testing methods.
  • Interpret test results, compare them to established specifications and control limits, and provide recommendations on necessary corrective actions.
  • Document and report the results of tests and analysis accurately.
  • Execute laboratory tests with accuracy and precision.
  • Use instruments and other lab test equipment to determine sample/test results.
  • If any testing deviations or abnormalities are found during the testing, they are responsible for investigating the reasons and suggesting corrective actions.
  • Assist in developing new testing methods and protocols to improve the efficiency of quality control processes.
  • Use all PPE (personal protective equipment) while in laboratories, abide by all safety rules and procedures, and work safely at all times.
  • Read, understand and apply handling cautions as stated in the lab's material Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Stock sample preparation areas as well as test station cabinets, drawers, and shelves with labware and needed supplies or testing.
  • After testing samples, clean test station and lab equipment where needed, restoring everything to its initial state of cleanliness and readiness.
  • Report any equipment, sample, and/or test issues or difficulties to lab manager when running tests.
  • Perform record keeping on batch tickets, raw material paperwork, and do other clerical functions as required.
  • Perform data entry functions regarding testing results and inventory into SAP system.
  • Organize and manage the QC lab sample retain areas in the QC lab.
  • Follow safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Work is performed on site. No remote work offered for this position.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with SAP preferred.
  • Must be able to be exposed to and smell chemicals used in the testing environment.
  • Must be able to stand and work at a lab bench for long periods of time.
  • Strong attention to detail to identify inconsistencies and abnormalities in test results, ensuring product quality and safety.
  • Strong experience and knowledge in dealing with chemicals and their hazards.
  • Possess good reading and comprehension skills.
  • Working knowledge of SAP.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, required.
  • One year or more of related experience, required.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk while using a computer and phone.
  • Prolonged periods of standing while working at the lab workbench.
  • Work typically performed in a temperature controlled and noise-controlled environment.
  • The job is normally performed in a quiet environment; however, there can be unexpected, sudden loud noises, beeping backup alarms, flashing lights and sudden movements.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times by lifting, pulling or pushing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds by reaching above the shoulders.
  • Must be able to pass a respirator certification and wear different types of respiratory equipment.

Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Work environment is on site. Remote work not offered for this position.

Pay Range

  • Pay is based on verifiable experience.
